Link to Forgotten Lives
I couldn't figure out how to cross-post without losing my links, so here's the link to a piece I wrote this weekend about Forgotten Lives. It's a short piece about the welfare of animals in our country.

edit cartoon for Feb. 28

This is a memorial cartoon to the late Ann Boyd Thomas, a great woman I never got to meet. It's been a sad two weeks.
If you knew her and would like to share your story, please post it in a coment, email me or email them to nhopwood@newsandpress.com or fax information to 843-393-6811.
Below is her obituary:
Ann Boyd Thomas, 45, died Saturday, February 23, 2008.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at 2 PM in the Darlington Presbyterian Church. Private burial will follow at a later date.
Born in Darlington, SC, she was the daughter of the late Morrell L. Thomas, Jr. and Margaret Ann Cudd Thomas.
AB, as she was know to her friends, attended the University of Virginia in Charlottesville before going on to earn her Bachelors Degree in English from the University of South Carolina.
She was a creatively gifted graphic artist. In 1995, she co-founded the arts and entertainment magazine “Five O’Clock Friday,” of which she was publisher. She also succeeded her father as publisher of the “News and Press”, Darlington’s hometown newspaper, although in characteristically self-effacing fashion she never assumed the official title. She was recognized many times over by the South Carolina Press Association for her newspaper layout and design skills.
She was an active and enthusiastic member of the equestrian community, and a prize-winning rider with her champion show horses, Blitz and Tulip.
AB will be remembered for her sense of fun, her loving heart and her generous spirit. She was a living personification of the word “friendship,” who truly cared more for others than for herself. Her absence will leave a void in the lives of everyone who knew her.
Ann Boyd Thomas is survived by her mother, Margaret Ann Cudd Thomas, of the home; her brother, Morrell L. Thomas III of N. Myrtle Beach, SC; her niece, Tessa Ann Thomas, of N. Myrtle Beach, SC; many loving and devoted friends; and her beloved pet Welsh Corgi, Sophie.
Those wishing to make memorials in lieu of flowers may send them to the Darlington County Humane Society.
