I will not accept from Senator Obama, who did not feel it was his responsibility to serve our country in uniform, any lectures on my regard for those who did.McCain should still answer that question. How is it fair that he receives these tax-free funds when he can, and is, working full-time and new veterans have to fight and wait months on end for their disability pay?
Then, McCain doesn't want today's veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan to have full-tuition benefits, which he himself had. He didn't even show up for the vote, so he can dney it later. It's not like he was out debating the issues with still-campaigning Ron Paul, who was unfortunatley shut-out of the MSM.
McCain deserves my respect for his service, but he should respect everyone's right to question his actions also. No one is above the law, and he shouldn't act like he is above being questioned because of his service.

If Senator McCain filed years ago and has been awarded 100%, whom are you to question his getting what he has paid a terrible price for the injuries he has suffered. By your own reckoning, no one should get disability benefits since there will always be someone waiting to get their benefits. Should I give up my benefits for my service connected disabilities for the next guy. It took me 14.5 years to get to the level I'm at now and yet your saying that some people can't get their benefits.
As a service officer, I know that many of these sob stories are not being properly reports. Many details are being left out. When the details come to light you find out that the individual isn't deserving of the benefit.
I had a veteran I was helping out over the internet. He is not only a WWII veteran, but also a Atomic Veteran. About six years ago, he opened a claim for service connection for about 15 issues. He had several doctors he had statements from that attributed his issues to the Atomic tests he was exposed to. When I got a hold of the rating decision, I found out why he was denied. He had never went to a doctor (after leaving service) until he got sick over 50 years later. Without a Medical Nexus Opinion Letter he couldn't get service connection. I talked to the doctors he claimed he had the letters of support from and found out that there were no letters but just support. Details, details, details!!! I heard just doesn't cut it.
It has been show if the individual uses a well trained advocate he/she will usually get 20% to 30% higher disability rating.
First, I'm not saying qualified people shouldn't have their benefits. I am saying that someone receiving benefits in the past, or currently, should not work to deny other veterans benefits. That's it.
My question after the title means I don't get it. How is McCain considered 100% disabled but working and vigorous while there are veterans who can't get 50% disability when they are clearly scarred when you talk to them? I just don't understand.
Secondly, I am a US citizen with the First Amendment right to ask these questions. I just want all the candidates to answer the question not just switch the focus to who's asking the question.
Third, Do you have a link to his rating decision? I would love to read the full details if corporate-owned media and the government wouldn't bury it.
I know LA Times is a corporate-run biz, so I know there's more to the story. If you have some extra knowledge/data that you feel isn't being covered, please publish it somewhere or call a local paper to get a story! Heck, I'll help you if you want. I want to get to truth of these stories too!
On your last point, should everyone coming back from Iraq have to hire a lawyer just to get their benefits? I don't think so, and I think most people would agree with me. Soldiers don't know what the process is and they've just been in a seri,ously traumatic situation. How can they be expected to know exactly what bureacratic hoop they need to jump through first, second, etc.?
